For the first time, a complete lifting bridge system has been manufactured and exported from Vietnam by the Industrial Mechanical and Construction Joint Stock Company (IMECO).
On June 8th, 2009, IMECO held a handover ceremony for a steel-structured lifting bridge to its partner Promecon (Denmark) to span the Sodertalje Canal in Sweden, allowing trains to pass through and enabling the lifting of large ships. The investor of the bridge is the Swedish National Railway Company.
IMECO was responsible for the fabrication of the main lifting bridge, which is 52m long and 21m wide, with a lifting and mechanical transmission system including winches, gears, etc., weighing over 1,200 tons in total.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, General Director of IMECO, this bridge, worth over 3 million US dollars, was designed and manufactured according to the Swedish BSK99 standard. The entire structure was surface-treated to the highest possible standard and painted to meet the requirements of Europe’s harshest climates.
The project consumed nearly 20,000 man-days, with the participation of nearly 20 domestic and international suppliers of machinery, materials, and services. During the project’s implementation, dozens of innovations were immediately put into practice, estimated to have saved billions of dong. According to Mr. Trung, this is the first time a complete lifting system has been manufactured and exported from Vietnam.
